BORDEN, Ind. – Myra Wright Powell, president of the Borden-Henryville School Corporation Board of School Trustees, has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) Region 10 Outstanding Board Service Award.

The Outstanding Board Service Award honors school board members from across Indiana each year who have demonstrated above-and-beyond service to their school corporation and community. Honorees are recognized at the annual ISBA/IAPSS Fall Conference on October 5 at the Indiana Convention Center.

For decades, Myra Wright Powell has distinguished herself as a servant leader and advocate for public education. Unique among school board members, she has served on two different school boards and held the position of board president on both. Her leadership was especially instrumental during the division of the former West Clark School Corporation, where she helped guide the transition in a manner that has contributed to the long-term success of both newly established corporations.

Colleagues credit Powell with helping strengthen relationships and build trust across the district. Having served as a teacher, coach, principal, school board member, and board president during her career, she possesses a deep understanding of the power of public education. She is known for investing significant personal time researching issues, reviewing data, creating charts and analyses, and preparing thoroughly for board meetings to ensure informed decision-making.

Beyond the boardroom, she regularly attends academic programs, music performances, athletic contests, and postseason competitions, demonstrating her commitment to celebrating student achievement. She is also recognized for her generosity, as she routinely contributes to team and club fundraisers and provides encouragement and assistance to programs across the school corporation.

"Myra embodies the spirit of this award," said Borden-Henryville Superintendent Brent Comer. "Always leading with integrity, she has devoted countless hours to ensuring students receive the best possible educational opportunities, while fostering positive relationships across our community.”

The selection of Myra Wright Powell as the 2026 ISBA Region 10 Outstanding Board Service Award recipient recognizes the positive impact she has made on countless students, families, educators, and community members throughout southern Indiana.
