Celebrate BHSC Teachers!
We’re partnering with the Kolton Kaiser Foundation of New Albany to spotlight one amazing BHSC teacher each week—rotating by school (BES → HES → BHS → HHS). The featured teacher will appear on BHSC and school websites/ socials and receive a $50 Amazon gift card for classroom needs.

How to nominate (families of students only):

Tell us which teacher you’re nominating and share a specific story about how they’ve made a difference.

Submit the form: https://forms.gle/GiXWU2pGzVKXmcxHA

How selection works:

A central-office committee reviews nominations without teacher names (stories only).

Quality of the story—not the number of submissions—guides the choice.

One teacher from the scheduled school is selected each week.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the people who make BHSC special! 🧡

Thanks to the generosity of the Kolton Kaiser Foundation of New Albany, two additional students will be sponsored to participate in the Ruling Our Experiences (ROX) Program at Henryville Elementary during the 25-26 school year! ROX is an evidence-based program that equips girls to succeed in relationships, academics, and life as they learn to cope with stress and anxiety. The program is led by HES counselor Molly Tonnies.

Last year, of the students who participated in this program in its initial pilot at HES, 100% of students reported that they felt their ROX leader cares about them, 82% of those students said they felt more connected to girls their age, and 73% said they felt like they could really be themselves as they participated in ROX.

BHSC would like to thank the Kolton Kaiser Foundation again for helping sponsor students' participation in the program!

Future medical detectives at work 🧫🔬

Students in Mrs. Murrihy's Medical Detectives course tested how well different antibiotics stop bacterial growth by measuring the “zone of inhibition.” Students measured the clear rings—called the zone of inhibition—around each antibiotic disk to compare results and choose the best performer. Real data, real lab skills, and lots of teamwork!

Indiana Family Portal is Coming Soon 📊

Beginning this school year, families will be able to view their child’s state assessment results in Cambium’s Indiana Family Portal — including ILEARN (Checkpoints & Summative), IREAD-3, and I AM.

📅 When? Access opens after ILEARN Checkpoint 1 results begin posting in late September 2025.
🔐 How do we log in? Your school will share Family Portal access codes and step-by-step login instructions with you once results are available.
📄 What will I see? Clear, family-friendly score information for your student’s recent assessments—all in one place.

Look for a message in a few weeks from your school with your child’s access code and login directions. Sharing that code and logging in to the Family Portal is enough to view results (schools may still provide printed Individual Student Reports as needed).

Questions? Contact the BHSC Corporation Test Coordinator shurst@bhsc.school.

We know attendance can feel confusing, and we want to help make it easier to understand.

A new Indiana law (SEA 282) now requires all absences—including excused ones—to be counted in a student’s overall attendance record. But don’t worry: BHSC is committed to partnering with families early to support strong attendance habits.

💡 What you can do:
✔️ Keep reporting absences as always.
✔️ Check out our updated attendance overview and examples of excused, exempt, and unexcused absences.
✔️ Review the BHSC Student Handbook (pp. 8–11) for our proactive approach to support.

As always, reach out to your building principals for more information.

We look forward to serving your family for the 2025-26 school year!

Good afternoon everyone! We look forward to meeting you all tonight or tomorrow at our On My Way PreK registration night. I see that some of you have already filled out the online portion for funding. We truly appreciate you taking time to get that done beforehand, so it will make the process a little faster. We wanted to send out another reminder to bring ALL the needed documents tonight. Kendra, our On My Way PreK rep, told us that BOTH parent IDs are needed as well, so that is added to the list. Please bring with you the following documents: Birth Certificate - for ALL the kids in your home! BOTH parent IDs Proof of Residency (water bill, electric bill, etc) Immunization Records Pay Stubs for BOTH parents and/or school schedule; job search form, SSI/SSD - lowest pay stubs with in the last 15-30 days We can make copies of any of this for you, if needed. If you plan to come to Henryville tonight, please enter in the elementary Door #9 (side of the two story building). We would like for everyone to go in and out of that door so you don't have to walk around the school. If you plan on attending Borden registration night tomorrow night, please enter at the elementary front office (Door #8). Although you will probably have to park at the bottom of the big hill, you will have to walk up the big hill to get to the elementary office. There may be parking at the top, depending on how crowded it is, so I would try that first. :)

Hello BHSC families, In case you missed yesterday's post, this week is Gifted and Talented Awareness Week. This Thursday, we will hold a parent meeting for parents of high-ability students. Those parents should have received a brochure invitation. If you have not responded to the RSVP, please do so now. https://forms.gle/avaQXs3mmCYnu1mU8 The term "gifted and talented" refers to students, children, or youth who exhibit high achievement capabilities in areas like intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields.
