Apologies for the incorrect day of the week in the previous message . 2 hr delay for all BHSC schools on Wednesday, May 20th.
1 day ago, Brent Comer
Due to rising water and the potential for more rainfall overnight, all BHSC schools will be on a 2 hr delay on Tuesday May 20th. School buses are not permitted to travel over flooded roadways. Please have alternative plans in the event your child cannot be picked up by a school bus due to flooding. Please contact your child's school if they will not be in attendance due to flooding. Thank you for your understanding as we attempt to finish out the school year.

Over the past two weeks, Mr. Seth Caudill's HHS PLTW Engineering students presented their culminating Capstone Projects! These high schoolers didn't just study engineering—they applied real-world design, problem-solving, and teamwork to tackle major societal challenges.

🌟 Group 1: Fighting Light Pollution 🌌
Kayden Shultz & Nathan Burns
The Mission: Mitigating the harmful effects of light pollution on human circadian rhythms and wildlife.
The Solution: They engineered an outdoor lighting system designed to reduce light pollution by at least 30%!

🌟 Group 2: "Epione" Medical App 📱
Brianna Chastain, Charli Daniels, & Ethan Romine
The Mission: Simplifying complex medication management and providing vital life-saving knowledge to the public.
The Solution: A mobile health app that guides users through critical first aid situations (like burns and bleeding) and tracks prescription compliance.

🌟 Group 3: Multiple Stimuli Alarm Clock ⏰
Quincy Dooley, Owen Kern, & Josiah Spicer
The Mission: Waking up extremely heavy sleepers who suffer from alarm fatigue and don't respond to traditional sound.
The Solution: A physical robotics device that combines high-fidelity sound with mechanical motion to ensure a reliable wake-up call.

These projects showcase true innovation and prove that our students are officially career- and college-ready.

Join us in congratulating these brilliant young minds on their hard work!

BHSC Teacher Feature Friday

🔎 Each week, a central office committee reviews nominations and selects one educator from a rotating school (BES, HES, BHS, HHS). Winners receive a $50 Amazon gift card courtesy of the Kolton Kaiser Foundation. The nominator’s identity is revealed to the honoree on announcement day to keep the fun and suspense.

This week, the BHSC Teacher Feature Friday spotlights Henryville Elementary School.

Kristin Kleinert, HES, 5th grade teacher

Experience: 7 years HES teaching (+ 4 years at HES as a paraprofessional)
College/University: Ball State University and American College of Education
Fun Facts: Mrs. Kleinert's grandfather, parents, husband, children, AND Mrs. Kleinert all attended Henryville schools, and her first grandchild will begin at HES this fall in the daycare.

"I cherish building connections with students, their siblings & their families more than any portion of my job. Often these connections lead to meaningful learning, but most importantly, they support our students as they grow into contributing members of our school community. My heart is fullest when current & former students come to share their successes--and even their struggles--with me! " says Mrs. Kleinert.

Mrs. Kleinert was nominated by a family who asked to remain anonymous but indicated that Mrs. Kleinert's impact on their grandchildren was exceptional.

Congratulations, Mrs. Kleinert!

Nominations will reopen next school year for BHSC Teacher Features for each of the four schools.

Lora Anderson, BES, music teacher

Experience: 5 years at BES, 9 years overall
College/University: University of Louisville
Fun Facts: Mrs. Anderson has been skydiving! She says, "Yes, I willingly jumped out of a plane."

"I have been blessed to teach all levels and grades. Music has always been my outlet, and I'm happy I get to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for it with my students. My favorite part about teaching my subject is when they FINALLY get it. When it FINALLY starts to make sense, then their love for music grows exponentially!" writes Mrs. Anderson.

Mrs. Anderson was nominated by the family of JP Bennett, who wrote, "Mrs. Anderson spends so much of her own time and money to prepare creative music lessons with a limited budget and teaching the students that they can make and appreciate music with anything around them. She has helped my son to find that he loves music and he has even enjoyed joining the choir. He is not so musically inclined but she worked with him to find where he can not only participate but even excel!"

Congratulations, Mrs. Anderson! Thank you for choosing to make music with BHSC students!

One big thing to check off your summer to-do list! ✅

We are officially in the swing of registration for the 2026-27 school year! Currently, 38% of our families have successfully submitted their forms. Thank you to the 605 students who are already set for the fall!

If you fall into that "Not Started" or "In Progress" category, take a few minutes this week to log in and knock it out. Getting this done now helps our schools plan for staffing, rosters, schedules, and transportation so we can hit the ground running.

A little friendly competition never hurt! 🏆 Our registration numbers are climbing, but one school is currently "leading the charge." Check out the standings as of today:

🥇 Borden Elementary: 47% (Way to set the pace!)
🥈 Henryville Elementary: 39.5%
🥉 Borden High School: 38.5%
💪 Henryville High School: 30.5% (Plenty of time to make a comeback!)

Which school community can move the needle the most by next week? Let’s get those forms submitted and clear those to-do lists! ✅

BHSC is excited to see our Lady Hornets take to the new softball field on Friday night for their home opener. We look forward to seeing the stands packed with their fans and enjoying the new field. If you are planning to attend, you will notice a beautiful new turf field that is complete and ready for competition. You will also notice that the entire site is still a work in progress. You will notice temporary railing, bleachers that are in need of height adjustment, and restrooms that are not quite ready for use as a few examples. There will be "portable" bathroom facilities available on site. Each home game, you should notice a softball site that is getting closer to completion. Thank you in advance for your patience as we complete this project and make necessary adjustments. Your patience is greatly appreciated and the wait will be worth it! I'm sure these inconveniences will be easy to overlook because we will all be cheering on our Lady Hornets to their first win on the new field.
