🎨 Thinking BIG in Intro to 3D Art! 🎨

Mrs. Morgan Cope’s Intro to 3D Art students are turning everyday objects into larger-than-life statements, inspired by Swedish-born Pop artist Claes Oldenburg—best known for monumentalizing ordinary items, including his iconic 45-foot Clothespin sculpture near Philadelphia City Hall.

Using paper mâché, students embraced Oldenburg’s bold style by scaling up the familiar in imaginative ways. From a towering queen chess piece to an oversized WD-40 can and a Stanley cup, these sculptures prove that creativity grows when students are encouraged to see the ordinary in new ways.

We’re loving the craftsmanship, collaboration, and creative confidence on display!

As part of National School Counseling Week, we’re celebrating the dedicated counselors who support our students academically, socially, and emotionally. Henryville High School Principal Mr. Kyle Lewis shared these words in recognition of the counselors who serve his students:

"Henryville Jr./Sr. High School serves grades 7–12 and has over 500 students in the building. We are supported by two outstanding school counselors, Cameron Clark and Carrissa Burns, who guide students in their academic planning and decision-making.

Cameron and Carrissa are responsible for a wide range of tasks. They ensure each student is planning courses aligned with future goals and aspirations. Henryville is unique in that, despite being a small school, we are able to offer a wide variety of opportunities. We currently have five career pathways available to students: engineering, medical, education, business, and hospitality. In addition, we recently became an Early College–endorsed high school, allowing us to offer many college credit opportunities to our students. Over the past three years, more than 30% of our seniors have earned the Indiana College Core, graduating with 30 transferable college credit hours.

We also send students to Prosser Career Education Center, which partners with us to help students explore additional career opportunities. Cameron and Carrissa coordinate all of this, ensuring students stay on track with high school graduation requirements, dual credits, pathway requirements, and Prosser enrollment.

Beyond academics, they play a vital role in supporting the mental health of our students, helping them navigate the many challenges teenagers face during these formative years. Cameron and Carrissa are also incredibly flexible. With constantly changing requirements and regulations, they are always willing to problem-solve and find ways to make things work for our school and our students.

They truly put students first, and we deeply appreciate all that they do."

Miss Burns and Mr. Clark, thank you for your work with BHSC students!

School Counselors Week Flyer

As part of National School Counseling Week, we’re celebrating the dedicated counselors who support our students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Borden High School Principal Mr. Charles Gardner praised Mrs. Cavins and her work at BHS:

"A huge shoutout to Borden Jr./Sr. High School counselor, Amanda Cavins, for her incredible dedication to our students.  Mrs. Cavins plays a vital role in helping BHS students achieve school success by guiding them through their academic planning and decision-making. Whether she’s helping students navigate diploma types and requirements, discovering scholarship opportunities, or coordinating college credit, she ensures every student is on a path toward their future goals.

Mrs. Cavins maintains great relationships with many outside partners including Ivy Tech, IUS, and the Prosser Career Center. These partnerships provide our students with direct access to specialized vocational training and dual-credit courses.

Outside of school hours, Mrs. Cavins is a constant at athletic events, supporting students and helping every event run smoothly.

We are so grateful for all she does to put students first. Thank you, Mrs. Cavins, for everything you do to prepare our students for life after high school!"

Mrs. Cavins, thank you for choosing to support BHSC students!

BHSC Teacher Feature Friday

🔎 Each week, a central office committee reviews nominations and selects one educator from a rotating school (BES, HES, BHS, HHS). Winners receive a $50 Amazon gift card courtesy of the Kolton Kaiser Foundation. The nominator’s identity is revealed to the honoree on announcement day to keep the fun and suspense.

This week, the BHSC Teacher Feature Friday spotlights Henryville High School

Seth Caudill, HHS, Engineering/Design Teacher

Experience: 9 years at HHS, 14 years total
College/University: IUS
Fun fact: Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Caudill was a licensed electrician.

Mr. Caudill says, "My favorite part of teaching at Henryville High School is helping students make real-world connections between content areas. In the engineering classroom, we are able to demonstrate how content learned in other classes can be applied to real-world situations through projects and activities. Professionally, I am most proud of establishing and growing the engineering and robotics programs. Thanks to the support of the school board, administrators, and local businesses, we have been able to offer opportunities to our students that have never existed at Henryville High School before. "

The Tieken Family nominated Mr. Caudill, writing, "Besides being a great teacher, Mr. Caudill also puts in additional time as a tennis coach and a Robotics coach. His commitment to students and players is far more than just being there. He is passionate in all that he does and goes above and beyond. Last year’s MS Robotics success, and this year’s MS boys tennis success are just a few examples of his commitment!"

Mr. Caudill, thank you for working to create opportunities for BHSC students!

Good afternoon. All BHSC schools will be under asynchronous learning tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 30th. No in person learning. We were very hopeful that road conditions would improve enough for us to safely transport our students tomorrow, but unfortunately that is not the case. We continue to have single lane roads where buses passing another vehicle would be dangerous and there are a number of bus turnarounds that are inaccessible and overnight single digit temperatures are not helping road conditions. Although we highly desire school to be in session tomorrow, conditions for the entire district don't make that a safe option. We will evaluate road and weather conditions on Sunday afternoon and let everyone know our plans for Monday. Thank you for your incredible patience and understanding this week and hope to see everyone on Monday.

All BHSC schools will be using Synchronous elearning again tomorrow, Jan. 29th. No in person learning tomorrow. We will review road conditions again tomorrow and evaluate our options for Friday. If possible, we would like to find conditions favorable for a 2 hour delay on Friday. To accomplish this, we may have to alter some bus routes and student pickup areas, especially in sub divisions, where bus turnarounds aren't possible. Again, we will make that decision/announcement tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

This week, the BHSC Teacher Feature Friday spotlights Borden High School

Cara Martin, BES, Special education teacher

Experience: 30 years in special education, 27 of those years on the Borden campus
College/University: IUS
Fun fact: I own a large Sulcata Tortoise named Sully.

Mrs. Martin says, "My favorite part of teaching is building strong relationships with students and watching their confidence grow. I love seeing students realize they are capable of more than they believed—academically and personally—especially after they’ve struggled or doubted themselves. While not all of our “wins” are obvious, we celebrate each one. Supporting students through challenges and celebrating their successes, even years later when I hear how they’re doing as adults, is what makes this work so meaningful to me."

The McCormick Family nominated Mrs. Martin and shared, "Mrs. Martin is an outstanding educator who treats each child as her own. She understands the individual needs of each student and goes out of her way to accommodate those needs. When people ask me about Borden and why I love this school, Mrs. Martin is one of the first thoughts that comes to mind. You can tell that she teaches with her heart every day she comes to work. I know many students who have overcome great adversity because Mrs. Martin was by their side, each step of the way! She is amazing!! "

Mrs. Martin, thank you for choosing to teach ALL learners and celebrate their wins!

Experience: 17 years, all at HES in kindergarten!
College/University: IUS
Fun fact: My first job was at an ice cream shop.

Mrs. Summers says, "My favorite part of teaching is seeing the world through the innocence of children. I also love watching them grow in so many ways during their year in kindergarten. Having a K-12 campus, I have been blessed to continue watching students grow over the years until they graduate. I have even got to see a few come back and start their careers here."

The Horton Family, who nominated Mrs. Summers, shared, "She has spent years teaching my children and encouraging our family. I'm so thankful that she has never given up on my kids and continues to support them as well as all of her students!"

This week, the BHSC Teacher Feature Friday spotlights Borden Elementary School

Nichole Farley, BES, English teacher

Experience: 8 years total, 5 years at BES
College/University: Western Governors University
Fun fact: I own my own cleaning business!

Mrs. Farley says, "My favorite part of teaching is watching my students grow—not just academically, but as confident, curious learners. Seeing their faces light up when something finally “clicks” makes all the hard work worth it. I cherish building relationships with my students and knowing that my classroom is a place where they feel safe, supported, loved, and excited to learn each day. I love knowing that I get to play a small role in shaping their love of learning and helping them build a strong foundation for their future."

Multiple families nominated Mrs. Farley because of her impact on their children and the growth they see in them as students and as humans.

Charlie and Allen Scott's family wrote, "She’s had at least one of my kiddos for three years straight. She values my kids' needs and understands them like no other! Even when they’re having a rough day, she always makes sure to communicate with me, and make sure my boys turn their day around. We work together as a team to make sure the boys know how to be their best. She goes above and beyond for the students in her classroom. She’s always there to support them, and for that I couldn’t be more thankful. "

The King family wrote, "From Covid to now, we have had the immense privilege of having Mrs. Farley teach three of our children! Our kids are all very different in personality and learning style, but every year has been amazing. We know when our kids are placed with her that she will meet them where they are and give them all the tools they need to be successful in first grade! Our son can be a tough cookie to crack, and we weren’t sure what to expect this year. When we walked in at open house, she greeted him with a fist bump and positive words that gave him the confidence to open up. She has blown our expectations out of the water, and he’s become a reading rockstar this year! We are so grateful for her ability to reach every kind of student."

Mrs. Farley, thank you for choosing to invest in our students!
